Can people measure happiness??

After having established different theories about the measuring of happiness and as a way of concluding this discussion, psychologist Ed Diener claims there is no only one key to reach happiness but a set of them. Social relations are at the top of the list applying to family and friendship the most important positions giving this last a protective effect against disease. Once more, an assertion of this kind may lead to a misunderstanding since social relations are thought to contribute to people’s health.

Giving meaning to life is definitely another key element in the search for happiness. That life is a precious value people must take for, should be a reality in addition to the belief that every single human being is on Earth for a particular reason. The last ingredient offered by doctor Diener is that of having enjoyable goals in which people use their strengths and abilities. By looking at the elements proposed by the experts, happiness seems to depend on a wide and extended variety of factors, but above all of them is the human capacity of sociability.

In contrast to what has already been stated, Professor Diener also provides the reader with key factors that may cause unhappiness such as the loos of a spouse and the loos of a job. In both cases, people may be affected for several years until they get to a definite recovery.

Taking into account psychologists’ view towards happiness it may be thought as a momentary state people experience after being exposed to what they may consider a happy event.
