“The Science of Happiness”

Have you ever thought about what happiness is? Have you ever felt happiness inside or known someone who considered himself a happy fellow? Questions like these may emerge on peoples mind several times without finding a convincing answer. However, according to an article heading “the Science of Happiness” scientists assure they found the way of measuring happiness and suggest that it should not be considered as a vague concept but as something real. However, this notion of happiness is far from being taken as valid by people since they see happiness as an abstract state of the human soul and not as a concrete or tangible possession. In addition they say its length is directly influenced by the happening of a sadevent.

Furthermore, the fact that social scientists declare they can actually quantify happiness by means of a question is seen as almost ridiculous. People answers may be based on someone else thoughts or remarks.

Although the properties applied to happiness by scientists such as making people live longer, health improvement and better performance, they are not able to prove such causes. However, according to Professor Diener the evidence suggests that people suffering from depression live less than happy people. But up to what extent can this assertion be considered as true and blame unhappiness of not being healthy? Additionally, the popular belief that money does not make people happy is established by specialists who also suggest that people adapt to pleasure. However, they add that rich people tend to measure their level of happiness by comparing themselves to poor people. Thinking seriously about this possibility, only brings to the surface how self-centred and miserable humans may be.
