Bestsellers usually have their filmic version, which in most of the cases contain some differences and similarities with its written one. Although the general theme is maintained, movie directors change some information or skip any unimportant details to make the movie shorter. In this regard, “Around the World in Eighty days” is not the exception.
To begin with, both versions share the main plot; Phileas Fogg’s attempt to circumference the world in eighty days. Both stories also have some subplots such as the persecution of Phileas in hands of inspector Fix or the secret love between Princess Aouda and Fogg.
As regard the characters, there are some differences. In the written version the life of the main characters is told throughout the story, while in the movie characters are briefly presented at the very beginning. Also the personality of characters is described in both versions by means of actions, dialogues and thoughts.
